Good Citizen by George Taylor won CoHo's second annual new play competition. Special consideration was given to resident playwrights of the Pacific Northwest, or plays with ties to Oregon or the Northwest. We found all this and more with George Taylor’s remarkable play Good Citizen:

In 1942, more than 120,000 men, women, and children – the vast majority U.S. citizens – were forced to give up their homes and most of their possessions and be relocated to armed camps. Most went peacefully, believing cooperation showed them to be good citizens eager to help in the war effort. A few had other ideas of what entails good citizenship. One of them was a young Portland, Oregon, attorney and natural-born U.S. citizen named Minoru Yasui. Good Citizen uses a variety of storytelling approaches to dramatize Yasui’s story as part of the greater political and personal upheaval that marked the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

CoHo Productions presents a stage reading of Good Citizen by George Taylor as our contribution to the city-wide festival of new works, Fertile Ground.
